How we started

The Craft Embassy is owned by Clive Weston, Seth Hamilton and Josie Baker. Clive has owned and operated hospitality ventures on
Oxford Terrace since 1993. However, after several challenges dealing with big breweries following the Christchurch earthquakes, Clive
vowed to re-open a fully independent freehouse, serving craft beer only. Securing a prime location in the newly built The Terrace
complex (virtually on the same spot as his last bar) Clive was joined in the venture firstly by Seth and then later by Josie. Together they
brought the concept of the freehouse to life, opening the doors of The Craft Embassy in March 2018

What sets us apart

We offer 30, ever-rotating taps of NZ's finest independent craft beer, located in a sunny, west-facing setting overlooking the Avon River,
by the Bridge of Remembrance. With the busy pedestrian boulevard of Oxford Terrace and the river below, our balcony is a great spot to people watch and soak up the sun with a craft beer in hand and a selection of sharing plates. A fully glazed, conservatory-style area out the back is a great option for private functions and is an ideal location for drinking and dining in the sun, out of the cold wind, on a winter’s day.

Most Famous Style

We’re famous for having one of Christchurch’s (if not New Zealand’s!) best selections of craft beer on tap. We aim to represent a full range of craft beer - from real ales on our six handpulls, through to Lager, Pilsner, Pale Ales, IPA's, Hazy IPA's, Sours, Ciders and Saisons. We are not affiliated with any particular brewery and are dedicated to bringing beers from any of NZ’s craft breweries to the adventurous palates of our customers! We also have a fantastic menu with plenty of GF and Vegan/Vegetarian options. From gourmet burgers to upmarket mains plus a range of ever-popular sharing plates like fried chicken and mac'n'cini balls – there’s something to cater for everyone.
