This region is not only the home to Captain Cook’s historic first brew and New Zealand’s first craft brewery, it is also the centre of New Zealand hops growing.

 

A breeding programme has developed unique New Zealand hop varieties, many of which have become mainstays in New Zealand craft beer brewing and are in demand by brewers internationally.
