OUR STORY
Six years ago, our youngest child went to school and stay-at-home Dad Andy Henshaw took his award-winning brewing to a commercial level, opening the first brewery Whanganui had seen in 62 years. True to our name, we've been putting down ROOTS in our community, growing slowly and organically, providing delicious brews to a local market and working with other small businesses to showcase quality.
What sets us apart?
Family run (just the two of us and our kids), yummy core range, innovative new styles using local harvests (eg Kawakawa Sour, Grapefruit Saison, Hazelnut Porter, Raspberry Tart), traditional Kiwi rustic style (jockey box made of copper hot water cylinder, bar made of former shed siding, table made of former railway hatch), dedication to quality and sustainability (solar powered, glass tasting cups, reusing bottles, planting trees with schools), friendly and keen to talk about beer.
Most Famous Style?
Kawakawa Sour--a gruit using the native bush for bittering, resulting in a lovely lemony complexity, completely original (Silver 2023 NZBG awards, Bronze 2024 NZBG awards)
