How we started
At Sprig & Fern, "craft beer" means more than a quirky name or a funky bottle. It's about combining malt, hops, innovation and precision in a way that sets apart everything we brew. We don't pasteurise our beer, so we don't a?ect the great ?avours. Most recently, Sprig & Fern Brewery were announced as the 2018 Trophy winners in Packaging at the Brewers Guild of New Zealand Awards, awarded on aesthetics, product information, utility (ease of use, style) and innovation. The quality of the product, consistent offering and innovation in recipe is matched by the outstanding presentation in a range of glass vessels.
All our beer is brewed under the watchful eye of Master Brewer, Tracy Banner, who has amassed 35 years' experience in the brewing industry in the UK and New Zealand. Tracy played a signi?cant role in the birth and rise of craft beer in New Zealand and is highly sought after as a judge and speaker. At the Brewers Guild of New Zealand Awards in 2014, Tracy was presented with an Honorary Membership medal in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the brewing industry. Not one to rest on her achievements, at the 2018 Brewers Guild of New Zealand Awards Tracy was awarded the Morton Coutts Trophy for Innovation and Achievement in the Brewing Industry.
What sets us apart
In addition to the Brewery where all the beer is produced under the watchful eye of Master Brewer Tracy Banner, we are proud of our real Kiwi taverns, where real beer is served in real pints to real people. There are now seven Sprig & Fern Taverns in the Nelson Tasman region, and two in Wellington: one in Tinakori Road, Thorndon and the other in Jackson Street, Petone. There is also a Little Sprig in Seatoun.
Sprig and Fern Taverns are cosy, family-friendly and welcoming, and deliberately have no TVs, no pokies and no pool tables, so great conversation and human interaction abounds.
